Programs
At Step Above Childcare Centre, our programs invite children to learn in the ways that they learn best. Through hands-on guided discovery and opportunities to thrive independently, your child’s first school experience will be one that excites them to learn more. Children are placed in age appropriate classrooms where activities are designed with your child in mind.
Step Above uses every moment of your child’s day to embrace new learning experiences, with opportunities for outside play, individual discovery, one-on-one bonding time, and large and small group interactions.
Our teachers form bonds with each and every child to establish a strong sense of security and strive to maintain open channels of communication with parents and families.
Age groups are as follows:

Dramatic Play, Language and Art
At Step Above, children are encouraged to express themselves through any of a number of artistic mediums – dramatic play, music, dance and visual arts. Art activities foster sharp fine motor skills and cognitive development, language skills and an interest in communication.
Nature and Science
Children are naturally inquisitive and we strive to stoke their curiosity in the world around them. We recognize that science is a particularly important domain in early childhood, serving as the basis for the way children understand the world and their attitude toward learning.
Construction and design
When children manipulate their environment to create things, they engage in constructive play. This activity promotes a healthy imagination, problem-solving skills and self-esteem.
Outdoor play
Weather permitting, outdoor play is an every day activity at Step Above, allowing children to enjoy the natural environment, exercise, fresh air and activity.
Rest and quiet time
Nap time is as important for cognitive and physical development in children as any other daily activity. It is an every day activity at Step Above.

At Step Above Childcare Centre, we run a daycare program designed to support working parents. We have the space, necessary equipment and professionally trained staff to care for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Depending on the time of arrival, the child will be served appropriate snacks or a meal. We strive to ensure a safe, healthy and nurturing space for children to learn and grow.
At Step Above, we have developed a menu that consists of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy and meat with everything prepared on site at the centre. We have an in-house cook who prepares lunch and two snacks for every child daily. We believe in building healthy children here at Step Above. Weekly menus including meals and snacks will be posted in the classrooms.
